Helen P. Hales

Helen Phillips Hales, 98, wife of the late Jesse W. Hales and a resident of Painter, VA, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, at Heritage Hall HealthCare in Nassawadox. A native of Painter, she was the daughter of the late William H. Phillips and the late Fannie Bundick Phillips. Mrs. Hales was a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA, a retired registered nurse, and a member of Painter-Garrison United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hales is survived by two nephews, William Savage and his wife, Bess, of Quinby, VA and Bill Phillips and his wife, Marilyn, of Melfa, VA; two nieces, Dixie Sammon and husband, Jack, of Pennsville, NJ and Ann Brooks of Frederick, MD. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hales was predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer Hales; her sister, Dorothy Savage; her brother, Willard "Buddy" Phillips; and her beloved feline companion, Topper.

A funeral service will be held graveside Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Becky McGee officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Painter-Garrison United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Connie Campbell, P.O Box 502, Painter, VA 23420.
