Bob Parker

Robert "Bob" L. Parker, Sr., of Belle Haven, died on Friday, December 16th at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital with his wife of 59 years by his side. Bob was born on April 12, 1935 in Salisbury, a son of the late William S. and Gladys Vaughn Parker.

Bob graduated from the University of Maryland and went on to serve in the United States Airforce, retiring as Lt. Col. He traveled in the military with his wife working as a civilian RN years before returning to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to begin an auto parts and petroleum business with his father-in-law, the late Harry W. Drummond. Bob later became co-owner of H.W. Drummond Inc. with his brother-in-law, Sam Taylor. Bob retired and his son, Harry Drummond Parker, is now the owner of the family business.

Bob was dedicated to his family and to his community. He always made time for his family, worked hard and was a friend to many. He was the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need and was a member of numerous community organizations including Ruritans, Masons, Shriners, and the Moose where he attained the highest honor of the degree of Pilgrim. He believed in helping children attain their best education and served as a member, and later, chairman of the Accomack County School Board. He also served on the B. B. and T. Bank Board and was a member of the Craddockville UMC.

He was an avid swimmer, working his way through college by lifeguarding on the beaches of Ocean City. He enjoyed diving, fishing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Sue Drummond Parker; his daughter, Jody Parker Baggett and her husband, Richard; and his son, Harry Drummond Parker and his wife, Barbara. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, William and Vaughn, and his son, Robert L. Parker, Jr. He is survived by four grandchildren: Alexandra Bernard and her husband, Shane; Kristen, Kelsey and Robert Parker.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Rob Kelly officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's honor to the Robert L. Parker, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, c/o Exmore Moose Lodge #683, P.O. Box 1227, Exmore, VA 23350.
