Herman "Bud" Smith, Jr., 92, loving husband of the late Geraldine "Jo" Harley Smith and a resident of Painter, VA, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at his residence. A native of Princess Anne, MD, he was the son of the late Herman S. Smith and the late Edna Gardner Smith. He was a United States Navy Veteran and retired Internal Revenue Service Agent. Bud was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame.
He is survived by a daughter, Jody S. Cullen and her husband, Mapp, of Keller, VA; a sister, Betty Nichols of Salisbury, MD; two grandsons, Matthew Hopkins and his wife, Wendy, of Elizabeth City, NC, and Adam Hopkins and his wife, Deanna Joy, of Bloxom, VA; and three great grandchildren, Madalynn, Jacob, and Sadie Joy. He was predeceased by his son, Jonathan Winthrop Smith and granddaughter, Sarah Hopkins.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Fairview Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Parks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #56, Post Office Box 357, Cheriton, VA 23316.
