John David ‘Dave’ Carlin, 67, husband of Laura Trala, and a resident of Jamesville and Virginia Beach, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Born July 6, 1958, he was the son of Jeannette and the late John D. Carlin. He attended Kempsville High School.

Dave worked for NEX Services for a number of years, including a year in Cuba, before transferring to Gekay Sales & Service, where he served as Southeastern Manager. There, he had the opportunity to travel the world and serve the military, always having a great respect for their service and sacrifice. More recently, he helped his wife with her restaurants on Chincoteague Island and Cape Charles.

Other than his wife and mother, Dave is survived by his brother and best friend, T.C. Carlin and wife Emy; sister, Carol Conaway and husband Mike; niece, Carlin Conaway; nephew, Christopher Conaway and wife Plessah. Other than his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Larry; and his ‘Bro’, Larry Trala.

Dave was blessed to have many life-long friends on both sides of the water.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 27, at 3 p.m. at Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, with the Rev. Jay Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Bank of Cheer, PO Box 646, Onley, VA 23418, or the charity of one’s choice.
