Debi Gurd

February 8, 1957 — May 24, 2025

“Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day.

Unseen, unheard, but always near;

Still loved, still missed, and very dear.”

In Loving Memory of Debra Ann “Debi” Gurd

February 8, 1957 – May 24, 2025

Debra Ann Gurd, known to all who loved her simply as “Debi,” or “Ga” passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on February 8, 1957, in Flint, Michigan, Debi brought her strength, laughter, and love wherever life took her — eventually making her home in Machipongo, Virginia.

Debi is survived by her son, Johnathan Gurd, and his wife, Jennifer, along with their children, Zachary and Nickolas. She is also lovingly remembered by the grandchildren of her late daughter, Katie Jo DeMarino — Chelsea Valentin (George) and Matthew Frisby — both of whom held a special place in Debi’s heart. She was a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren, Tricity, MadiMae and Stetson who brought her endless joy in her later years.

For 28 years, Debi worked at Waterford Printing, where she found not just a job but also a family. Karen Parker and the team at Waterford became her second home and cherished companions.

A passionate reader of Stephen King novels, a skilled crocheter, and most recently, a devoted TV binge-watcher with her granddaughter Chelsea, Debi never stopped exploring new joys. She was a hard worker, fiercely independent, and always called it like she saw it. Her honesty, big heart, and humor made her unforgettable. She loved a good laugh, a cold beer, and — above all — her people.

Debi will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of strength, humor, and love lives on in those she held close.

A private service will be held by her family to honor her memory.
