Dion Edward Smith, 38, of Portsmouth, VA, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth. A native of Franktown, VA, he was the son of Dion G. Smith and his wife, Rhonda, of Gloucester Point, VA, and the late Fran Gunter Smith Matson.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a brother, Robert Smith of Gloucester Point; a sister, Julia Mitchell and her husband, James, of Killeen, TX; paternal grandfather, O. H. Smith, Jr. of Jamesville, VA; aunt, Edie Gunter of Portsmouth; two uncles, O. H. "Hank" Smith III of Princess Anne, MD, and Douglas P. Smith of Jamesville; and a loyal friend, Nicholas Parks of Portsmouth. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Mollie Kay Agathoin Smith and his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Peggy Gunter.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Virginia Greer officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
