Donald Matthews

Donald Wayne Matthews, 69, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation in Parksley, Virginia.

He is survived by his son, Gary Matthews; his sister, Ann Comstock (James) of Roper; his niece, Nancy Cooper (Joe) of Belhaven, NC; his great-niece, Molly Cooper of Belhaven, and her children Abby, Austin, Brandon, Cherrianne, and Christopher; and his nephew, Donnie Edwards. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Karen Broadwater, and his brother, Alfred Gray Matthews.

Don had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. When he wasn’t on his lawn mower, he could often be found fishing, and he always took joy in sharing his catch with friends. His kindness, humor, and easygoing nature will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Quinby Cemetery, with Lori Mitchell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doughty Funeral Home to assist the family with final arrangements.
