Listen to Obituary

Donald Edward Writt, 81, of Cape Charles, Virginia, was a devoted Christian and a man known for his gentle spirit, genuine kindness, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Donald was the dearest and sweetest man you could ever want to meet, always offering a loving, nonjudgmental presence and embracing those around him as his own.

Donald’s faith was an important part of his life. When he was younger, he enjoyed singing in the choir and performed numerous solos. He took great pride in his singing and would spend hours practicing in the basement, determined to make every note just right. His love of music continued throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed singing karaoke, whether by himself or alongside his family. He would often record his performances so he could listen to them again later, creating memories his loved ones will treasure.

He found great joy in the outdoors and in the peaceful moments of everyday life. Donald loved fishing and flower gardening and could often be found sitting on the porch listening to the birds while watching the squirrels and deer. He especially enjoyed listening to storms and watching the rain, finding beauty and comfort in the simple sights and sounds of nature. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Donald leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years, Orquidea; his daughter, Sundae Meyer; his stepdaughter, Patty Timm (Marshall); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Viola Writt; his brother, Charles Writt Jr.; his sisters, Dorothy Stottlemeyer, Pearl Mood, Josephine Keats, and Isabel Tomlin; his stepson, Elwood Leary; and his stepdaughter, Victoria Brant.

Donald’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, his faith, his gentle nature, and the unconditional love he so freely gave to his family and others. His was a life that reminded those around him of the beauty in simple moments, the importance of family, and the power of a kind and loving heart.
