Doris Lewis

Hazel Doris Buckhalt Lewis, 98, wife of the late Francis G. Lewis and a resident of Cape Charles, VA, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Dowling Park, FL, she was the daughter of the late John F. Buckhalt and the late Pearl Lee Horton Buckhalt. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Cape Charles.

She is survived by two sons, Francis A. Lewis (Betty Rose) of Cape Charles, and Laurence E. Lewis of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Linda L. Wendorff of Vacaville, CA; five grandchildren, Troy Lewis (Lisa) of Cape Charles, Vance E. Lewis (Jo Ann) of Cape Charles, Bryan C. Lewis of Round Rock, TX, Tracy Stafford of Ormand Beach, FL, and Melinda Torrance of Jacksonville; and ten great grandchildren, Zachary Lewis, Samantha Lewis, Justin Kertez, Kristen Lewis, Jordan Torrance, Raley Torrance, Skyler Stafford, Jet Stafford, Kennedy Q. Lewis, and Sophie M. Lewis. Other than her parents and husband of 56 years, she was predeceased by two brothers, Cecil Buckhalt and John Carmen Buckhalt; two sisters, Lorene Stephenson and Mildred Buckhalt; a son-in-law, Roger Wendorff; and a daughter-in-law, Vivian Lewis.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 7:00 PM at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Kellam officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 11:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery in St. Augustine, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Charles Christian School, Post Office Box 30, Cape Charles, VA 23310 or Trinity United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 326, Cape Charles, VA 23310.
