Elizabeth Acworth Bundick, 89, of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at Shore Health and Rehab in Parksley, Virginia.
She was born on December 25, 1936, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Pearl and Weldon Acworth. Elizabeth grew up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, a place that remained dear to her heart throughout her life.
Following her graduation from high school, Elizabeth moved to Delaware, where she attended Golden-Beacom College in Wilmington. Her time there marked the beginning of many years spent building her life and career in the state she would later call home.
On November 19, 1955, she married Alfred Bundick. They shared 19 years of marriage until his passing in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Bundick Downs.
Elizabeth worked for many years at the University of Delaware in the Appointments Processing Office, where she was known for her dedication and reliability. Outside of her professional life, she found joy in reading, needlework, and enjoying lunch outings with her friends. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and valued the fellowship and service it represented.
She is survived by her daughters, Natalie Story (Steven) of Assawoman, Virginia, and Bernice Guerrero (Bob) of Greeley, Colorado; her grandchildren, Lauren Downs of Elkton, Maryland, Joanna Waring (Jamie) of Baltimore, Maryland, Sarah MacDonald (Matt) of Millersville, Maryland, Mitchell Downs (Amy) of Northport, Florida, and honorary granddaughter Megan Truitt (Matt) of Cholera, Maryland; as well as several great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Thursday, April 16, 2026, 10:00AM, at Doughty Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Charles Peterson officiating. Inurnment will be private in Johnsons United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-0163 or Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite #102, Norfolk, Virginia 23502 or Eastern Shore S.P.C.A., Inc., PO Box 164, Onley, Virginia 23418.
