Frances Hall

March 2, 1950 — May 12, 2024

Frances Marie Marsh Hall, of Oyster, VA, went home to God on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 12, 2024, after being surrounded by the love of three generations of family.  She was a lifelong member of Travis Chapel United Methodist Church in Oyster, where she led the youth group, fundraisers, and served on the board until the church was officially closed a few years ago.  In her working years, she did a variety of jobs, including picking crabs, driving a school bus for Northampton County Public Schools, and selling her famous sweet potato pies.  In retirement, she loved nothing more than spending time spoiling her five grandchildren; Alexander, Keaira, Liam, Luke, and Trinity. She also loved gardening, serving the community through volunteer work, making floral wreaths, and cooking big meals for her extended family and friends. She never met a stranger, so all were always welcome at her table.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Olivia Marsh; and her sister, Jeanette Bulter.  She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 55 years, Wayne Hall, with whom she shared a full and happy life; her children, Ernest Hall and his wife, Erin, and Valerie Thomas and her husband, Chris; her grandchildren; her sisters, Lillian Brady, Melissa Mears, and Angel Wilson; her nieces and nephews across several generations who all called her “Nanny”, because she was truly more of a second mother or grandmother than an Aunt to all of them, and countless friends and neighbors in Christ.

Services will be held at Travis Chapel United Methodist Church in Oyster, VA, Monday, May 20, 2024, at 2:00PM, with the Reverend Bob Talbott officiating.  Family will join friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Capeville Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Barrier Islands Center, 7295 Young Street, Machipongo, Virginia 23405.
