Frances Powers Roberts

Frances Powers Roberts, 88, wife of the late Hurley Carliss Roberts, Jr. and a resident of Quinby, VA, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA. A native of Quinby, she was the daughter of the late Rooker W. Powers and the late Louise Carruthers Powers. She was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for 67 years, and was an organist for Doughty Funeral Home.
She is survived by two sons, Trent Roberts (Melanie) of Chesapeake, VA, and Carey Dean Roberts (Diana Stiles) of Quinby; two grandchildren, Erin E. Morris (John) of Chesapeake, and John C. Roberts of Austin, TX; two great grandchildren, Jayce and Eden Morris, both of Chesapeake; a nephew, Alan Gladden (Kathee) of Marionville, VA; and a niece, Miriam Gladden Sturgis (Lennie) of Birdsnest, VA. She was predeceased by a sister, Gloria P. Gladden and a brother-in-law, Robert A. Gladden.
Frances loved her family and friends. She would talk with anyone at anytime and had opinions on mostly everything. She loved music and dancing and would be the first on the dance floor. She taught us you're never too old to dance which she was doing as recently as March. Frances loved to travel. It didn't matter whether it was 5 miles or 500, she just loved being on the road. If there was a piano or electric organ nearby, she would soon be playing a few tunes. She was a feisty little lady with a big heart, generous and kind to anybody who needed help. Those who knew her will think of her and smile and laugh and dance. And Frances would too.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Reverend Curtis D. Lucy officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Gwen Blake, 5046 Seaside Road, Exmore, VA 23350.
