Mrs. Brockenbrough enjoyed designing and sewing festival flags, knitting, her book club, volunteering and extensive travel with her husband.  She was a long-time member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church where she organized and directed the Food Pantry, networking with other churches in the Ginter Park area before moving to St Paul’s Church at Hanover Courthouse.  She was a volunteer for twenty-five years at Virginia Rehabilitation for the Blind and Vision Impaired, and a founding member and treasurer of their Volunteer Council.  On moving to Covenant Woods she continued to enjoy volunteering and served on several committees as well as the Resident Council.  As a member of the Conservation Taskforce she was active in establishing the recycling program in 2008.  She especially enjoyed semi-annual “sleepovers” with five special friends on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, all 1945 graduates of Northampton High School.

Survivors include four sons, Benjamin W. Brockenbrough, III (Robin) of Montpelier, Dr. James Scott Brockenbrough (Dr. Jennifer Shook) of Tucson, Arizona, Allan Brockenbrough, II (Paula) of Elmont, and Thomas W. Brockenbrough, and a sister-in-law, Jean Tankard Scott of Onancock.  She is also survived by two grandchildren, Eamon of Melbourne, Australia and Emily of Lisbon, Portugal, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her loving husband of fifty-four years and her parents, Mrs. Brockenbrough was predeceased by her sister, Martha Scott Rogers, brother, James Holland Scott, Jr., and brothers-in-law Spencer McMath Rogers, Allan Brockenbrough, and Henry W. Brockenbrough.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Hanover Courthouse on September 6, 2023, at 2 P.M.  A reception will follow the service at Hanover Tavern.  A graveside service will be conducted Friday, September 8, 2023, at 2:00PM, Hungar’s Episcopal Church in Machipongo, VA, with Reverend Janet Wheelock officiating.
