Otho Jackson "Jack" Brady Jr

December 12, 1934 — October 6, 2025

On a beautiful fall morning, Jack Brady, 90, of Oyster, Virginia, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family.

Born and raised in Oyster, he was the son of the late Otho and Ruby Brady, and brother of the late Robert Brady. He spent his entire life on the water he loved so much, learning the tides, the creeks, and many secret spots along the seaside out of Oyster. From a young age, he joined his mother and father on the water, soaking up their knowledge and learning the tips and tricks that would guide him through a lifetime spent fishing, crabbing, clamming, and oystering.

He shared 71 incredible years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hilda. Together they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. He is survived by his devoted daughter Ellen Tester and her husband David Tester; his granddaughter Heather Spence and her husband Shawn Spence; and two great-grandchildren, Jillian Spence and Porter Spence — his pride and joy. He never missed an event or moment to cheer them on, and they brought him immeasurable happiness.

He worked for many years at Bayshore Concrete Products, but his heart always belonged to the sea. As a charter boat captain, he shared his deep knowledge of the water — though he was famously protective of his favorite fishing hot spots! Many fishermen sought out his experience and wisdom, and over the years, he became a respected local figure. His skill, stories, and enduring connection to the water led to him being featured in local books, articles, documentaries, and videos.

He had a lifelong passion for fishing, particularly for tarpon and speckled trout. He caught his first tarpon in 1968, and the excitement of a good catch never left him. His laugh was easy, his stories were memorable, and his loyalty to those he loved was unshakable.

His personality, love, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed. We like to think that when he crossed over, the tarpon and trout in heaven were already biting — because there’s no doubt, he was ready to go fishing.
