Jimmy Pruitt

April 13, 1941 — May 2, 2018

James Allen Pruitt, Jr. died May 2, 2018, in his Cape Charles home surrounded by his beloved family. Jimmy could often be found walking hand in hand with his devoted wife of 53 years, Etta Kaye, carving duck decoys, fishing on Plantation Creek when the speckles were running, and enjoying frequent visits from his family and friends. He was the son of James Allen Pruitt, Sr. and Helen Sterling Pruitt, long-time residents of Cape Charles.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Kaye Luettinger Pruitt; his daughter, Elizabeth Burak, her husband, Jim, and their sons, Adam and John; his daughter, Sarah Pruitt Smith, her husband, Rob, and their sons, Walker and William; and his son, Jim Pruitt, his wife, Julie, and their children, Hunter, Shawn, and Emma. Jimmy will also be missed by his loving and steadfast brother, Clem Pruitt; his caring sisters-in-law, Libby Luettinger and Sue Pruitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

It was Jimmy's wish that there be no public service. The family is grateful for the many thoughts and prayers and requests that their wishes to mourn privately be respected. Although their loss is felt deeply, the family is comforted knowing that his longing to go home has been fulfilled.

Friends who want to honor his memory can make contributions to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 901 E Street, NW, Suite 100, Washington, DC 20004-2025 or the students of Cape Charles Christian School, PO Box 30, Cape Charles, VA 23310. He spent many happy hours watching those children at play on the Cape Charles school grounds.
