Lawrence John “Bud” Wiser was born on February 1, 1938, in Norfolk, Virginia, to John Lawrence and Fannie Powell Wiser.

He graduated from Central High School in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Army for two years before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. Bud had a distinguished 25-year military career, attaining the rank of Master Chief Yeoman of the United States Coast Guard. Upon retirement in 1983, he returned to the Eastern Shore, where he was able to enjoy peanut farming with Harry Lovell.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #56 for 22 years. He also joined the VFW Post #4856 in the 1980s, before becoming a Life Member in 1991.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Theresa “Terry” Wiser; three daughters; Kim Smith (Rodney), Kathryn Harrell, and Kris Branch (Tim); four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends, including his Hardee’s Breakfast Bunch.

He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Bill Wernsman.

Bud’s legacy of service, love, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A private interment was held at Quinby Cemetery.
