Marsha Hughes Pruitt, age 68, passed away early Christmas Morning, December 25th, 2025.
Born on July 27th, 1957, Marsha was the daughter of Leonard "Buddy" Hughes and the late Margie Hughes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose warmth and laughter left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Marsha is survived by her loving husband of almost 46 years, Peter Pruitt; her daughter, Jessika Pruitt; and her treasured grandson, Gibson Pruitt. She is also survived by her father, Leonard "Buddy" Hughes; her sisters, Sandra Alford (Dave) and Leslie Jones; numerous nieces and nephews; and four very special friends, Kelly Harrison, Mary Lou Robbins, Mammie Gaskill and Cathy Anne Bell. She was predeceased by her mother, Margie Hughes; her mother-in-law, Barbara Ann Harrison; and her father-in-law, Thomas Eugene Pruitt.
Marsha dedicated many years of her life to hard work and service. She worked for Attorney Robert Oliver from 1975 to 1984 and then spent over three decades at The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel, where she worked from 1984 until her retirement in 2016.
Above all else, Marsha loved her family. She adored her husband, daughter and grandson, cherished her friends, and had a special place in her heart for her dog, Hazel. She found joy in cooking for others, growing flowers and vegetables, wearing flip flops, listening to Willie Nelson, soaking up warm sunshine at the beach and playing bingo.
Marsha and Peter's love story began in 1979 while cruising around Cape Charles. One chilly night, she tucked her cold feet behind his back to warm them—and from that moment on, they were inseparable.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 21st, 2026, the first day of summer, a day rich with meaning as it marks her mother's birthday and her parents' wedding anniversary. It is a fitting day to honor a woman who loved sunshine, family and life itself.
Though she may have left this world, Marsha's spirit remains close, carried in memories, shared stories and the love she gave.
"So leave me if you need to, I will still remember, Angel flying too close to the ground." -Willie Nelson
