Rosalie Zegelbone

June 21, 1933 — September 3, 2025

Rosalie Marilyn Miller Zegelbone, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born on June 21, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Rosalie was the daughter of Abraham and Ida (Golovato) Miller. She was predeceased by her dear siblings, Reuben Miller and Nora Miller Brodow. Rosalie spent most of her life in Brooklyn, where she raised her family and built a life rooted in love, laughter, and deep connection.

She married the love of her life, Charles Zegelbone, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing. Together, they raised two daughters: Nan Zegelbone Arpino (Chris Morgan) and Lisa Zegelbone (Vito Febbraro). Rosalie was a devoted and loving grandmother to Paul Arpino, Dane Arpino, and Elena Febbraro, and a proud great-grandmother to Carra Smith, Serefina Arpino, and Thearan Arpino.

A gifted bookkeeper with a sharp mind for numbers, Rosalie worked for many years at The Workbench and The Algonquin Hotel in New York City. But her talents extended far beyond her professional life.

She was a natural conversationalist with the gift of gab, known for striking up conversations with strangers and keeping in touch with family near and far. Her humor, quick wit, and remarkable memory for names made everyone feel seen and remembered.

In 2020, Rosalie moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, where she quickly became known and loved as “Miss Rosie.” She embraced Southern life with open arms and continued to spread kindness, joy, and a genuine love for people wherever she went.

Rosalie found great joy in telling jokes, reminiscing on family stories, and sharing long phone calls with loved ones. Her presence brought warmth and comfort, and her deep love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was evident in every word and action.

A celebration of Rosalie’s life will be held on November 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home, 3117 Main St., Exmore, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosalie’s honor to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, a cause close to the family’s heart.

Rosalie's spirit, her laughter, and her boundless love will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
