With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steven “Troy” Butler, a beloved son, brother, father, husband, and friend whose kindness, quiet strength, and love for others touched countless lives.
Troy was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1971, in Silver Spring, Maryland, to the late Lynwood C. Butler and Margo D. Griffin.
A talented carpenter, Troy took great pride in building with his hands and creating things that would last. He loved music—especially Chris English and his band, Brother Lowdown—disc golf, and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Troy remembers his quick wit, unforgettable stories, and ability to make people laugh.
One of Troy’s greatest joys was being a father to his son, Nathan, whom he loved deeply and was immensely proud of.
Throughout his life, Troy experienced both happiness and hardship, yet he continued to move forward with resilience. In recent months, he faced cancer with remarkable courage and determination.
Troy is survived by his loving mother, Margo D. Griffin; his son, Nathan; his brother, Scott (Amanda); step- sister Gina Floyd (Joe)and many other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynwood C. Butler and step- father, Michael Griffin.
Though his time with us was far too short, Troy’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
