Verne Wood

Verne Elaine Wood of Machipongo, Virginia passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at 84 yrs old. Born to Norman and Evelyn Drew in New York.

She worked for over 20 years as an elementary school teacher and never stopped telling her fourth-grade jokes. After retirement she enjoyed raising canaries with her husband, reading and traveling to see her favorite acapella group who she lovingly referred to as "her guys".

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Ann Wood Griffin and her husband, Jerry, Barbara Wood Casbeer-Killoran and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, David and Emily; and many friends as she never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James E Wood; and parents, Norman and Evelyn Drew.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
