Walter Edward “Ed” Jordan Jr., 86, of Painter, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026. Born in Crisfield, Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter Edward Jordan, Sr. and AnnaWalston Jordan. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army for seven years and was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Ed was known as a true jack of all trades who could tear anything down and put it back together better than anyone. He loved fishing, enjoyed telling jokes, and was always quick with humor that brought smiles to those around him. Above all, he was a good husband and a loving father who cherished his family.
Ed met the love of his life, Mary Helen Jordan, in Baltimore, Maryland, and the two were married just 16 days later, beginning a lifelong love story. They moved to Princess Anne, Maryland where Ed owned and operated Jordan’s Auto and Truck Repair. He later worked for Eastern Correctional Institution for 18 years and retired. He then moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia on Nandua creek, which they proudly called home. After retiring from ECI he still just could not sit still and he then served as a bus driver for Northampton County Schools for another 18 years before hanging up his hat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam Morgan, and his grandson, Shon Applegate Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Helen Jordan; his children, Connie May, Don May Jr., AnnMarie Applegate (widow of the late Shon Applegate Sr.), and Jessica Bell (George Bell Jr.); eight grandchildren, Tony, Nicholas, Joshua, Cierra, Patrick, Jenna, Brittany, and George III “Trip”; numerous great-grandchildren; and many friends who will miss him dearly. Ed will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00PM, at Doughty Funeral Home, with Carson Cartwright officiating. Interment will follow at Belle Haven Cemetery. Friends will join family at the funeral home one hour prior.
