Dale Lynch

June 16, 1940 — December 12, 2022

Dale Carlyle Lynch was known for her brilliant smile and affection. She laughed out loud, connected with people everywhere she went and loved deeply. As she said in her final days, “I’ve had a beautiful life and a beautiful marriage.”

She grew up in Bronxville, New York and at age five met a sweet boy with curly strawberry blond hair and blue eyes in her neighborhood who would become the love of her life, Wilford Arthur Lynch. Dale and Wil began their epic love story when they began dating at 16. At their wedding in 1960, they danced to “True Love” which says it all:

For you and I have a guardian angel…

To give to you and to give to me

Love forever true

Dale and Wil built a family and life full of love and adventure with 18 relocations including two years in England, home renovations, parties (always parties), vacations and countless close friends. She gave everyone she met her undivided attention, remembering every detail of their stories. Everyone walked away feeling special.

She was a talented gardener, entertainer, decorator and cook, and was passionate about art, family history, reading, travel and all things medical. Her accomplishments were many and started in high school running school drives and “I Like Ike” campaigns, creating beautiful homes, working as a volunteer EMT in Houston, managing a gourmet market, and eventually working side by side with Wil in real estate on the Eastern Shore.

Her biggest achievements were a 52-year marriage to Wil, who she lost in 2012 and raising a loving family to whom she was devoted.

Dale leaves behind her son Christopher and daughter-in-law Megan Lynch, daughter Jennifer Lynch and son-in-law Derek Weitzel, grandchildren Reid and Olivia Weitzel and Oliver Lynch, her cousins Maryon Womble, Marshall and Patty Timm, Sallie and Frank James, Debbie and Tommy Vanlandingham and twelve nieces and nephews she adored. She is predeceased by her precious grandson Ian Christopher Stewart Lynch, her sisters Nancy Mohr and Jan Murphy, and her parents Thirma Anderson and Herbert Carlyle Leech.

Dale’s family would like to publicly thank all the caregivers and doctors who supported her and helped us ensure that she could face these last few months with dignity and stay in her home with family by her side: Dr. J. Lloyd Kellam, Dr. John Dye, Dr. Eric Lipton, Helen Wilson, Grace Smaw, Kim Stumpf, Iris Baker, Tracy Etz, Jane Fair and “C Team” at the Cheriton Fire Station.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dale’s name to Hospice of the Eastern Shore or the Cheriton Volunteer Fire Company. A private memorial will be planned for spring to celebrate Dale’s love of life and her bright smile that still shines on.
