Peggy Johnson

November 16, 1943 — February 23, 2023

Margaret “Peggy” Johnson, beloved wife, mother of two children, and seven grandchildren, passed away on February 23, 2023, at the age of 79.

Peggy was born on November 16, 1943, in Evanston, IL, to J. Carroll Taylor from Temperanceville, VA, and Helen Sturgis Taylor from Pungoteague, VA.

She was preceded in death by Michael D. Johnson (husband), Steve Stevenson (ex-husband), and Sue Taylor Paschall (sister). Her two children survive her: Lee Stevenson and wife Lara of Onancock, VA, and daughter Meg Larabee and husband Sonny of Ahoskie, NC. Other survivors include brother-in-law Peter Paschall, nephews Peter Paschall, Jr. of Belle Haven, VA, and Richard Paschall and wife Elizabeth of Franklin, TN. Peggy also had seven grandchildren: Taylor (Chicago, IL), Jack (Onancock, VA), and Natalie (Williamsburg, VA); Trace (Raleigh, NC), Cade (New York, NY), Landon (Chapel Hill, NC) and wife Hayley, Hennie (Edenton, NC) and husband Jay.

Peggy spent most of her life on the Eastern Shore, having moved here in the 1960s. She was the Human Resources Director of the Community Services Board of the Eastern Shore of VA and the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck for many years. Even in her retirement, she loved to stay informed about the community. She was also active with Onancock United Methodist Church and was an avid tennis player in her younger years.

Peggy loved spending time with her family. She spent hours talking with her daughter and sister every week. She was also a doting grandmother (known affectionately as “Grammy”). Holidays were a big occasion for her. She loved decorating her house for Thanksgiving and Christmas and even built two playhouses for her two granddaughters and five grandsons to enjoy when they visited.

There will be a private ceremony with her family at a later date.
